Day 26, Z = Zani La Rhyme

Bless the soul that created the poetry form with Z 😉 😛

Zani La Rhyme – The ZaniLa Rhyme, a form created by Laura Lamarca, consists 4 lines per stanza. The rhyme scheme for this form is abcb and a syllable count of 9/7/9/9 per stanza. Line 3 contains internal rhyme and is repeated in each odd numbered stanza.  Even stanzas contain the same line but swapped. The ZaniLa Rhyme has a minimum of 3 stanzas and no maximum poem length.

I lay adrift in idyllic dreams

Of mellow ochre sunrise

It makes me croon, the silvery moon

That bewitch the senses in surprise

 

 

Soaring on my magical carpet

A fluffy cloud says hello

It makes me croon, the silvery moon

When Minervas play melodious cello

 

Deep within the mahogany woods 

Fairies danced in silken sheer

The silvery moon, it makes me croon

While it lights the sky like chandelier

 

I dance around in sweet reverie

With satyrs, elves and pixies

It makes me croon, the silvery moon

While I lay adrift in fantasies

~::~ [A-Z Challenge] ~ Young man from Yemen ~::~

Day 25, Y = Young Man from Yemen

Yet again, there are no poetic forms from Y and so I’ve decided that I’ll be using the poetic form – Limerick for this Alphabet.

A Limerick is a rhymed humorous or nonsense poem of five lines which originated in Limerick, Ireland. The Limerick has a set rhyme scheme of : a-a-b-b-a with a syllable structure of: 9-9-6-6-9.

~::~ [A-Z Challenge] ~ Xylophone

Day 24, X = Xylophone

Again, there are no poetic forms/types from X and so I have decided to write a lesser known form called Naisaiku and Ive chosen the word “Xylophone”

A NaiSaiKu is usually two Haiku length stanzas with a capitalised title sandwiched between them. The second stanza is usually a reverse of the first. Each stanza is usually seventeen syllables or less. Sometimes the title doubles as the third line of the first stanza and the first line of the second.

~::~ [A-Z Challenge] ~ Wrapped Refrain ~::~

Day 23, W = Wrapped Refrain

The Wrapped Refrain, created by Jan Turner, consists of 2 or more stanzas of 6 lines each; Meter: 8,8,8,8,12,12 and Rhyme Scheme: a,a,b,b,c,c.
Refrain rule: In each stanza the first 4 syllables (or 4 single-syllable words) in the first line must be the last 4 syllables (or 4 single-syllable words) at the end of the last line. This is what wraps each stanza with a repeated refrain …thus, the Wrapped Refrain.
Optional: The first stanza refrain and last stanza refrain can be joined (or looselyjoined) together for the title of the poem.

Staggering through, dark silent nights

Persisting ‘til fate reunites

Trundling low with my broken dreams

My heart echoes my muted screams

Biding time awaiting amorous rendezvous

Many decades I’ve transpired whilst staggering through

 

I’ve walked alone, through pale moonlights

Enduring fate’s unrighteous smites

Existence bursting at its seams

I trudge along till hope redeems

In wilds I loiter until Destiny atones

Through these pallid gossamer paths, I’ve walked alone

Day 22, V = Villanelle

A Villanelle is a nineteen-line poem consisting of a very specific rhyming scheme: aba aba aba aba aba abaa.
The first and the third lines in the first stanza are repeated in alternating order throughout the poem, and appear together in the last couplet (last two lines).

Fly away oh vibrant butterflies

Take me to a land of golden streams

Where tranquility dwells ‘neath cobalt skies

 

Where luminescent golden suns rise

Painting heavens in shades of peaches & creams

A magical land of decadent moors lie

And evening brings iridescent moonbeams

Where kaleidoscopic sights tantalize

Through opulent valleys swathed in gossamer sunbeams

While a faint melodious scarlet tanager cries

Day 21, U = Underworld

Unfortunately there are no poetry forms created with the letter U, and so I’ll just have to write a poem with a word starting with letter U and my word for today is “Underworld”

Adrift on a boat to no where
New sights I have discovered
Forging ecstatic spirits in me
I walk through the underworlds

I came across unearthly sights
Secrets of the cosmos unfurled
Many a realm dwells here
As I walk through the underworlds

Passing through these untrodden paths
Whilst million questions swirled
I pondered my very existence
As I walked through the underworlds

Enjoying the mystical delights
Like a wispy cloud, I lay curled
While a Tuscan sun rose above
I walked through the underworlds

Day 19, T = Terza Rima

A Terza Rima is a poem with an eleven syllable count in each line and a rhyming scheme of aba, bcb, cdc, dd.

I fly away riding a unicorn fair

Up and away through wispy gossamer skies

In search of lands unknown where magic ensnares

 

Wandering through dazzling lands with awestruck eyes

Transcending through multihued hills and valleys

Offering a kaleidoscopic surprise

 

Fairies on vibrant flowers and mottled trees

Twinkling dewdrops capture the spangled sun beams

Beauty so mystical leaves senses appeased

Day 18, S = Sonnet

A Sonnet is a poem consisting of 14 lines (iambic pentameter) with a particular rhyming scheme:
Examples of a rhyming scheme:
#1) abab cdcd efef gg
#2) abba cddc effe gg
#3) abba abba cdcd cd
A Shakespearean (English) sonnet has three quatrains and a couplet, and rhymes abab cdcd efef gg.

Usually, English and Italian Sonnets have 10 syllables per line, but Italian Sonnets can also have 11 syllables per line.

I lay low after a heavy day’s toil

Adrift on a blissful carriage of dreams

Floating through the skies, hung by silken coils

Traverse the night on gossamer moonbeams

 

Of velvety valleys and glistening wells

I marvel the kaleidoscopic views

Petite fairies emerge from fresh bluebells

As I embark on my magical cruise

 

Stumbling upon a charming fairy ball

Fairies and satyrs dancing in merry

Music flows, as singing mushrooms enthrall

While sweet treats are served with wine and cherry

 

Fatigue swept as stars sang their final tune

I fell asleep with the far-setting moon

Day 17, R = Rondelet

The Rondelet is a French form consisting of a single septet with two rhymes and one refrain: AbAabbA. The capital letters are the refrains, or repeats. The refrain is written in tetra-syllabic or dimeter and the other lines are twice as long – octasyllabic or tetrameter.

~::~ [A-Z Challege] ~ Quatern ~::~

Day 17, Q = Quatern

A Quatern is a sixteen line French form composed of four quatrains. It is similar to the Kyrielle and the Retourne. It has a refrain that is in a different place in each quatrain. The first line of stanza one is the second line of stanza two, third line of stanza three, and fourth line of stanza four. A quatern has eight syllables per line. It does not have to be iambic or follow a set rhyme scheme.

I ride the waves of puffy clouds

Etching through the sky, I plow

In search of unseen horizons

To view pristine luminous suns

 

 

Chirping geese pass by in small crowds

I ride the waves of puffy clouds

Stopping to admire faint peach skies

And watch the spectacular surprise

 

Skylines ranging pink to purple

Beige sun rose, golden & sparkle

I ride the waves of puffy clouds

Watching the cosmic wonder- wowed!

 

Sun rays preening tiny dewdrops

Whilst glistening grasshopper hops

Amazed at splendorous scenes, proud

I ride the waves of puffy clouds
