~::~ Dabangg ~::~

The overall music score would be an average but for 1 single song with a total of 3 versions this album stands out.. No prizes for guessing which one.. Duh!! Raahat bhai’s song Tere Mast Mast Do Nain which has 3 versions – his solo, duet with Shreya and a remix..  the success of this album to a very large extent rides on the success of just a couple of songs.. Firstly Raahat Bhai’s song apart from that Munni Badnaam Hui largely for mass appeal , Malaika Arora Khan’s gyrations and definitely the Item number part of it.. This one is sure to be a hit not only for all weddings and college fests but even with the local autowallahs.. Why even I love it already..  Just waiting to catch a glimpse at Malaika’s jhatkas and matkas.. Humka Peeni Hai again would draw in the crowds for its uncanny resemblance to Khaike Paan banaraswala.. Nonetheless to all those who like folksy songs this one’s gonna be a super hit.. My rating would be 3.5/5

Chori Kiya re Jiya Sonu Nigam Shreya Ghosal – soft melodious song.. a nice romantic duet.. it has a tad western influence with respect to the music.. For a film based in Bihar.. I wonder why and how.. but nonetheless it’s a lovely number.. The tune somehow reminds me of Sonu’s music albums.. Not sure which song though.. But brings out that effect.. The lyrics are nice.. A tad predictable though.. the lines “tune hi chori kiya re jiya.. mora jiya are a lil addictive they stick in ur head even after the song is over.. Certified Listenable..Why? cos I think it wud take some more time to sink in and make it a must listen 😛 So for now its CERTIFIED LISTENABLE

Hud Hud DabanggSukhwinder and Wajid –  a signature Sukhwinder song.. the perfect number that you would except sukhwinder to belt out.. it has a head swaying effect on you.. atleast  had it on me.. so m speaking for myself.. there is a folksy effect to the whole song and I definitely aint surprised going by the location of the movie.. Wajid has complemented Sukhwinder perfectly.. the lyrics are spattered with bihari hindi.. pretty much like a war cry kinda song..  CERTIFIED LISTENABLE

Humka Peeni hai Wajid, Master Salim and Shabab – it seems to start with a Khaike Paan Banaras wala effect.. its pretty much in the same lines.. only here its not paan but either alcohol/bhaang.. nonetheless this is one of those head nodding/leg shaking numbers.. to which u cant help swaying.. for all those in love with folksy numbers  and dance number fans are sure to like it.. somewhere in between I was reminded of Omkara –Beedi Jalayle.. so if u have enjoyed tht one u are sure to like this too.. the lyrics are complete with masti and slang.. “matka mein apni tho tounti lagayile..” wen I heard it for the first time I burst out laffing.. basically cos I don’t know wat it means.. If any of you biharis out there and know wat it means kindly enlighten me.. And as for me since I love masti timepass dance numbers this goes for CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN

Tere Mast Mast Do NainRaahat Fateh Ali KhanDo I need to say anymore on why I like this song or what its certified as.. This is THE BEST SONG in this album.. Forget all the others and just listen to this.. Its one of the signature Rahat songs.. Mindblasting I say.. pehle peher tujhe dekha tho dil mera dhadka haye dhadka haaye jal jal utha hoon main shola jo pyar ka bhadka haaye bhadka haaye.. If someone was to sing this song like raahat for me.. I wud be ghayal in a jiffy 😛  I have no words to express the beauty of this song.. all I can say is CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN

Munni Badnaam mamta Sharma & Aishwarya –  new singers on the block.. and a perfect Item Number song.. I wouldn’t be surprised if this goes on to become the most raging song of this year.. With Malaika Arora Khan performing onscreen I am one eager human waiting to catch the video 😉 if you have liked item numbers like beedi and namak ishq ka and babuji zara dheere chalo you are sure to like this one atleast I do .. the lyrics are ROFL stuff… I mean imagine sayin “main zandu balm hui darling tere liyemaannn I was frigging laughing when I heard that.. but this one’s a really dhinchakkk number I have myself grooving whenever I hear this one 😀 CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN

Humka Peeni hai (remix)Wajid, Master Salim and Shabab – the original was funtoosh.. and the remix is just about fast paced with some additional beats and liberal use of western instruments..this one again is definitely something m sure im gonna like n simply for the fast beats and masti effect.. CERTIFIED LISTENABLE

Tere Mast Mast Do NainRaahat Fateh Ali Khan & Shreya Ghosal – this ones the duet version of the other song… the moment Shreya starts u are even more mesmerized with the song than u were.. now I cant ignore Raahat nor Shreya and I cant do injustice to Shreya  by sayin I don’t like this one… just cos I am a Raahat Fan 😀 😛 so nonetheless both these songs are simply awesome.. CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN

Munni Badnaam hui remix Mamta Sharma & Aishwarya – if u have liked the original u are sure to like this 😀  Not sure how many of you have heard the Kooke Koyaliya song from Life partner.. if you have then you know wat to expect from this song.. U like it u hate it but u cant ignore it, nice catchy groovy Item Number –  CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN

Dabangg Theme this ones more of an audio theatrical trailer than a theme in itself.. I have never come across a theme with dialogues.. whereas this one has all the effect of the punches the gunshots the screams the punch dialogues et all.. the musical interludes are ok not that great or anything.. But nice the highlights wud be the latino effect.. CERTIFIED MISSABLE

Tere Mast Mast Do Nain – remix Raahat Fateh Ali Khan – sigh!!! Wat do I say now.. They have not only given us 2 versions of this song already.. They even went on to give us a remix.. Not that I am too impressed with the remix.. But then as I said I can’t\ ignore Raahat but given a choice I can definitely pass over this one for the original solo one 😉 so this one goes in for a CERTIFIED LISTENABLE

That’s it on Dabangg peeps… Go get the music and enjoy.. the musical pundits please stick to Raahat’s songs, the dance peeps can chck out Humka Peeni Hai and ofcourse Munni Badnaam Hui.. for those who love folksy tunes get the whole album guys and for the others – listen to the songs before you download them..

That’s it from Megzone for now..

Badmash Company ~ NOT Bad(ly)mash(ed) indeed..!!

OK chuck the title…. I was just trying to add some zing…

and yes i knw im super duper late with the movie completely geared up to release…

Well well after hrithik how can I leave my Shahid out…. 😉

Haan… temme temme…

And now that the movie is up for release and my Shahid loooookkkks uber-sexilicious 🙂

The promos look promising.. What with Shahid and his various make-ups and gigs..

Errrmmm… ok lemme get back to the music review of the movie… this review specially dedicated to Shammeer bhai who has been continuously reminding me about it 🙂

Well Badmash Company makes up for a Timepass listen..

As the name suggests the songs only complement the title of the movie by lots of breezy funky fast paced numbers..

Special mention of Raahat Fateh Ali Khan’s rendition Fakeera – which is an awesomefreakinglicious number… chaska and ayashi as the names suggest are complete fundooo numbers.. For serious music lovers I think Fakeera would be the only treat.. The title song – Badmash Company is equally a merry number..The starting sounds reminiscent of some english song… then there is Jingle Jingle for the Mohit Chauhan Fans… yes yes the song seems to a masakali kinda number but yes def not anywhere near Masakali.. But definitely a good listen… Over all not bad at all..

CERTIFIED LISTENABLErating 3/5

Now for a detailed review:

~~~~~
Ayashi KK – if there was one funky attitude-ey song for someone who is completely bindaas and fun.. It has to by this song… the music and the lyrics simply complement each other.. Ofcourse a perfect song for the wannabes and those who want to add some oomph attitude to them… and yes I loved it completely simply cos of it foot-tapping, head nodding music and catchy lyrics… so this one’s a CERTIFIED LISTENABLE..
Fakeera Raahat Fateh Ali Khaan – the moment the song starts you know that it has something to offer to you.. Yes indeed.. And with Raahat bhai singing.. This one is THE BEST in the album.. And the lyrics almost philosophical and yes this is one of those songs that has you hooked to it the moment you listen to it.. Though the music is in tandem with the mood of the movie/other songs.. Arthaarth (meaning) a bit fast paced with ample usage of guitar.. To hear Raahat bhai is a complete treat to the ears.. Albeit the peppiness in the song.. Raahat’s crooning adds the much needed zing… Im sure anyone who listens to this is gonna be hung-ho about it for sure.. The liberal usage of aalaps and taranas makes it most-definitely-has-to-be CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN
Chaska krishna and Uri – its one fundooo song.. Completely catchy.. I mean wat else can you expect with a title like CHASKA.. It is obviously a fun dhinchaak dikchik number…..the music is yes indeed cute to listen.. The music brings in the complete fun and frolic mood to the song.. With a slight classical and use of Indian-ness base to it.. Makes it a good listen.. CERTIFIED LISTENABLE
Badmaash Companybenny dayal MG Sreekumar –  well the starting itself gives the song an eeriness equivalent to those typical mafia/gangsta kinda feel to it. The lyrics and the opening lines also add to the typical effect ala Smooth Criminal/Dhantenan types… where the music decides and creates the mood of the songs.. The lyrics interspersed with words like ae saale lafange.. Dedh-shaane.. Etc these kinda uplifts the whole Badmash effect to the song 😉 so to me this is definitely CERTIFIED LISTENABLE
Jingle Jingle Mohit Chauhan Devi Sri Prasad – this is one helluva cute number.. It will grow on u slowly.. And for the loyal Mohit Chauhan fans yes pretty much a treat… Pritam has tried to re-create a masakali/Ibn e batuta effect.. But hasn’t managed to pull it off that well.. But that does not mean that the song falls flat on its nose.. Nopes.. It still makes up to be worth listening thanks to Mohit and his twang-ish voice.. The lyrics is a complete HINGLISH.. Well most songs in this movie are HINGLISH adding a bit of rap here n there.. So this one’s a super listen too… CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN
Ayashi remixKK – if the original was fast this is faster… and yes if that was head nodding at the speed of one nod per 3seconds.. This is one nod per second… sounds funny naa.. But trust me it is indeed so..
It’s a fun number.. But somehow in comparison of the original this is slightly better.. But the one thing that has me bamboozled is why KK pronounces it as “AYASEE” instead of “AYASHI” 🙄 wonder why.. Nonetheless definitely CERTIFIED LISTENABLE
Chaska remixKrishna – like the previous remix this one also is one of those pub-ly dance numbers.. The kind of groovy songs that would have the crowds moving on the dance floor.. And for the listeners…. Only more head nodding and foot tapping both proportional to pace of the song… In some places though the singer reminds me of HIMESH Reshammiya… wonder why… 🙄 esp wen he dint sound so in the original.. Music mein gadbad kar di kyaa.. 😕 Overall a good listen.. CERTIFIED LISTENABLE..
~~~~~~

So overall the album makes up for a good listen… when you are travelling and reading a book and jus need some background music..But not the kind of songs which would make u sit and listen to the songs.. But rather those that don’t disturb your reading speed or bother you in anyway but jus provide the background noise in the form of music.. This album is IT.. Cos except for FAKEERA and maybe JINGLE JINGLE you wouldn’t notice wen the other songs pass by.. all you would be doing is nodding your head and reading.. J

So if you’re a self confessed book-o-holic plus music-o-maniac like me who can’t do away with either esp while travelling.. And if you manage to get a very interesting book which seeks complete undivided attention and u cant not listen to music but don’t want the songs to disturb you…. This is the Album for you.. You can simply play it on and nod your head to the beats and give your darling book the much needed exclusive attention it requires.. 😛

The laudable warrior….!!!

yuppieee… review of Veer –  the love story of a warrior 😛

Kanha thumri –  Rekha bharadwaj, Shabab Sabri, Toshi and Sharib –  Remember namak isq ka from Omkara… Rekha bharadwaj is back with a soul stirring number on Kanha.. its been a long time since we’ve had a typical classical basednumber in our movies.. last I remember was devdas with its Dhai Shaam rok layi.. so classical fans rejoice.. and yes Rekha has done complete justice to this song.. couldn’t imagine a better person to sing this number… it reminded me of yesteryears Umrao Jaan… CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN

Meherbaniyaan Sonu Nigam – With Sonu crooning do you need any reason to listen to this song…?? I guess not.. a wonderful number I must say.. though I did have my doubts wondering whats a periodic movie doin with a song like this.. this is  a shockingly  peppier number considering that the film is based in the pre-independence era and boasts of it being a love story of a warrior… and then a fast paced groovy number like this… Im def curious… very curious.. 😉 but yes must say ita nice song… its cute typical sonu-ish number… music such that it has u nodding and shakin ur head alongwith thte beats… ahh yes the beats it started with a feeling of being reminiscent of All I wanna is that they don’t realy care about us… or the later recent Boys number based on the same beats of Break the Rules…but in the paragraph areas it reminded me of Khambe Jaisi Khadi hai… I hope you remember that one… how can one even forget a Amir and madhuri movie :D… yes but none theless I still stand by what I say … CERTIFIED LISTENABLE..

Surili Aankhon Wale raahat Fateh Ali Khan, Sunidhi ChauhAn and Suzanne Demello –  this according to me is one of the best numbers in this movie… its nice soft lilting melodious number… the inclusion of English lyrics and western interludes remind me of O re Chore from lagan… and Raahat Fateh Ali at his best after Paap… if I’ve ever loved any song of Raahat it was Mann ki Lagan from Paap.. and this one is def on par with that…infact better than paap I shud say… a soulful ballad-ish number only I wish it had been a solo by raahat Fateh ali.. he is simply a delight to listen to… I am simply out of words to explain what this song is… so you guys just get a listen and let me know how you found it.. to me it’s a CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN.

Taali(Solo) Sukhwinder Singh –  this is a folksy fast number… a typical Sukhwinder-ish number… with a lot of old world hindi lyrics… this is fast sprightly number, the music does comprise a few war-cry-ish feel to it too.. its an okay-ish number to listen to.. nothing too exceptional  about… Sukhwinder sounds monotonous.. the Music Directors have exploited his talent much… just a few high pitched notes nothing great about it… sounds similar to most of Sukhwinder number… only I found the music a lil different and nice… its reminds me of a raga which I have heard but not able to place my finger on it.. its just an okie dokie number..it has certain influences of Baar Baar haan from Lagaan …CERTIFIED MISSABLE SONG

Salaam Aaya –  Roop Kumar rathod, Shreya Ghosal and Suzzanne DeMello – this has already been aired on most music channels and promos so I guess most of you have already heard it… its nice feel good number… it’s a nice one to listen to a couple of times.. after a few listens you tend to lose interest in it.. unlike Surili Ankhiyon Waale song..  so this is not as impressive as it seems for the first few times… Roop Kumar and Shreya perfect justice to the song.. Roop kumar sounds as if he’s tickling you with a feather on your face.. something like the sensuous scene of Mughal E Azam where Dilip Kumar brushes the feather lightly on MadhuBala’s face…yep that’s how the Song sounds… a nice feel good cute song.. Shreya as usual.. I don’t need to say anything about her at all.. CERTIFIED LISTENABLE

Surili Ankhon waleRaahat Fateh Ali and Suzanne DeMello–  Looks like Sajid Wajid  heard what I wrote when I heard this song’s earlier version.. you just cant get enough of this song…its just soooooooo fantaboulastically splendid..i’m so in love with this song.. esp this particular version…Rahat is simply amazing… err..ok if you think im exaggerating you can def listen to it and then prove me wrong 😉 CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN

Taali Sukhwinder,Raahat Fateh Ali Khan, Wajid and neuman Pinto – Ok if that was a solo version by just Sukhwinder this one has 4 singers singing the same song…the same effect nothing much different with this version… errr… to me this version of the song was pretty much or rather I would say for this song.. any one version was pretty sufficient … I think the other version has been added only to steer clear of the remixing of any songs.. yup one album with no remixes.. I;m happy about that but why this version 😦  MISSABLE NUMBER

Spirit of Veer –  this is an instrumental piece.. and no it does not have any soul stirring slow number.. like the usual spirit or theme songs.. this is a quick hippy heppy piece with ample use of the bag piper kinda tune,m whistles and a typical western influenced piece ala the Tap Dance sequence in Titanic.. something similar to that.. nice one.. a different kinda theme for a movie..

Final Verdict..

Overall the album is just about OK.. considering the number of MUST LISTENS & LISTENABLES  that I have given  I would give the over all album a 4/5…Cos except for the Taali piece and its version all the others are pretty much good numbers… I would suggest you listen or download only the Certified MUST LISTEN numbers… the others are pretty much worth a miss…a much required kudos to Sajid Wajid for the effort put in for the songs.. Except for Taali I would say the album is pretty complete… I wish they had either down away with the Talli number on the whole or atleast made that as a better number.. Sigh.. nonetheless the other songs are definitely superb.. Regardless of the fate of the movie, I must say the songs are absolutely a delight to listen to … Surili Ankhon wale ROCKS.. to me it’s the best number in the move… followed by Salaam and Kanha…

Do listen to the songs.. 😀
