~::~ The Box – Creepy ~::~

Firstly the cast got me interested..

Hadnt read much about the plot…. And now I wonder why dint I do that.. whats Wiki for..??  🙄

Sigh..!!!

This ones a freaky movie.. maannn.. the worst part being its gonna run in my head for somedays now.. unless I manage to watch a coupla romcoms to take my mind off this one..

The Movie is supposed to be based on a short story called “Button Button” by  Richard Matheson…

Its not exactly a horror movie but more of a science fiction meets thriller..

Gory in some places.. Senseless in some others and Dark in most of the places…

Cameron Diaz and James Marsden (yummylicious as ever) make up for the major cast alongwith Frank Langella who makes up for the creepy character of Mr. Steward..

Arthur, played by James works for Nasa and Norma (Diaz) works as a professor.. One fine morning they wake up with a package delivered in front of their house And a note which says they wud be visited by a certain Mr. Steward.. The package contains a push button wooden box.. Later they are visited by Mr. Steward who places some conditions in front of them, with a promise of million dollars in cash..

No no I am not giving out the story.. What happens when the button is pressed or whats the function of the button or the box and why was it delivered.. these will be answered and understood only when you watch the movie..

The actors deliver impeccable and flawless performances.. Cameron looks old to be James’ wife but sigh! That’s not my headache is it.. Frank Langella does perfect justice to his character and pulls off a sinister performance with an air of eeriness around himself..  Theres not one moment where u feel bored but not to the extent of feeling at the edge of the seat but the movie does definitely keep you glued cos you always wonder “what the hell is happenin” atleast I did mutter that sentence a number of times under my breath..

Nonetheless , for those who love thrillers and wouldn’t mind spending time watching this.. I am sure you are gonna like it.. The most notable part of this movie according to me would be the background music.. the music complemented the movie so aptly so perfectly the dark goriness disturbing music only added more effect wo whatever was happenin on sscreen..

I wouldn’t say I am super impressed with the story.. but darn I cant ignore it too.. its definitely  disquieting  movie. Im still reeling on the aftereffects..Sigh!!!

It’s a tad more than Watchable but not a must watch so to me this one goes as a Certified Watchable and I would give it a 3.5/5..

Thats it from Megzone for now..!!

~::~ Dabangg ~::~

The overall music score would be an average but for 1 single song with a total of 3 versions this album stands out.. No prizes for guessing which one.. Duh!! Raahat bhai’s song Tere Mast Mast Do Nain which has 3 versions – his solo, duet with Shreya and a remix..  the success of this album to a very large extent rides on the success of just a couple of songs.. Firstly Raahat Bhai’s song apart from that Munni Badnaam Hui largely for mass appeal , Malaika Arora Khan’s gyrations and definitely the Item number part of it.. This one is sure to be a hit not only for all weddings and college fests but even with the local autowallahs.. Why even I love it already..  Just waiting to catch a glimpse at Malaika’s jhatkas and matkas.. Humka Peeni Hai again would draw in the crowds for its uncanny resemblance to Khaike Paan banaraswala.. Nonetheless to all those who like folksy songs this one’s gonna be a super hit.. My rating would be 3.5/5

Chori Kiya re Jiya Sonu Nigam Shreya Ghosal – soft melodious song.. a nice romantic duet.. it has a tad western influence with respect to the music.. For a film based in Bihar.. I wonder why and how.. but nonetheless it’s a lovely number.. The tune somehow reminds me of Sonu’s music albums.. Not sure which song though.. But brings out that effect.. The lyrics are nice.. A tad predictable though.. the lines “tune hi chori kiya re jiya.. mora jiya are a lil addictive they stick in ur head even after the song is over.. Certified Listenable..Why? cos I think it wud take some more time to sink in and make it a must listen 😛 So for now its CERTIFIED LISTENABLE

Hud Hud DabanggSukhwinder and Wajid –  a signature Sukhwinder song.. the perfect number that you would except sukhwinder to belt out.. it has a head swaying effect on you.. atleast  had it on me.. so m speaking for myself.. there is a folksy effect to the whole song and I definitely aint surprised going by the location of the movie.. Wajid has complemented Sukhwinder perfectly.. the lyrics are spattered with bihari hindi.. pretty much like a war cry kinda song..  CERTIFIED LISTENABLE

Humka Peeni hai Wajid, Master Salim and Shabab – it seems to start with a Khaike Paan Banaras wala effect.. its pretty much in the same lines.. only here its not paan but either alcohol/bhaang.. nonetheless this is one of those head nodding/leg shaking numbers.. to which u cant help swaying.. for all those in love with folksy numbers  and dance number fans are sure to like it.. somewhere in between I was reminded of Omkara –Beedi Jalayle.. so if u have enjoyed tht one u are sure to like this too.. the lyrics are complete with masti and slang.. “matka mein apni tho tounti lagayile..” wen I heard it for the first time I burst out laffing.. basically cos I don’t know wat it means.. If any of you biharis out there and know wat it means kindly enlighten me.. And as for me since I love masti timepass dance numbers this goes for CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN

Tere Mast Mast Do NainRaahat Fateh Ali KhanDo I need to say anymore on why I like this song or what its certified as.. This is THE BEST SONG in this album.. Forget all the others and just listen to this.. Its one of the signature Rahat songs.. Mindblasting I say.. pehle peher tujhe dekha tho dil mera dhadka haye dhadka haaye jal jal utha hoon main shola jo pyar ka bhadka haaye bhadka haaye.. If someone was to sing this song like raahat for me.. I wud be ghayal in a jiffy 😛  I have no words to express the beauty of this song.. all I can say is CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN

Munni Badnaam mamta Sharma & Aishwarya –  new singers on the block.. and a perfect Item Number song.. I wouldn’t be surprised if this goes on to become the most raging song of this year.. With Malaika Arora Khan performing onscreen I am one eager human waiting to catch the video 😉 if you have liked item numbers like beedi and namak ishq ka and babuji zara dheere chalo you are sure to like this one atleast I do .. the lyrics are ROFL stuff… I mean imagine sayin “main zandu balm hui darling tere liyemaannn I was frigging laughing when I heard that.. but this one’s a really dhinchakkk number I have myself grooving whenever I hear this one 😀 CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN

Humka Peeni hai (remix)Wajid, Master Salim and Shabab – the original was funtoosh.. and the remix is just about fast paced with some additional beats and liberal use of western instruments..this one again is definitely something m sure im gonna like n simply for the fast beats and masti effect.. CERTIFIED LISTENABLE

Tere Mast Mast Do NainRaahat Fateh Ali Khan & Shreya Ghosal – this ones the duet version of the other song… the moment Shreya starts u are even more mesmerized with the song than u were.. now I cant ignore Raahat nor Shreya and I cant do injustice to Shreya  by sayin I don’t like this one… just cos I am a Raahat Fan 😀 😛 so nonetheless both these songs are simply awesome.. CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN

Munni Badnaam hui remix Mamta Sharma & Aishwarya – if u have liked the original u are sure to like this 😀  Not sure how many of you have heard the Kooke Koyaliya song from Life partner.. if you have then you know wat to expect from this song.. U like it u hate it but u cant ignore it, nice catchy groovy Item Number –  CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN

Dabangg Theme this ones more of an audio theatrical trailer than a theme in itself.. I have never come across a theme with dialogues.. whereas this one has all the effect of the punches the gunshots the screams the punch dialogues et all.. the musical interludes are ok not that great or anything.. But nice the highlights wud be the latino effect.. CERTIFIED MISSABLE

Tere Mast Mast Do Nain – remix Raahat Fateh Ali Khan – sigh!!! Wat do I say now.. They have not only given us 2 versions of this song already.. They even went on to give us a remix.. Not that I am too impressed with the remix.. But then as I said I can’t\ ignore Raahat but given a choice I can definitely pass over this one for the original solo one 😉 so this one goes in for a CERTIFIED LISTENABLE

That’s it on Dabangg peeps… Go get the music and enjoy.. the musical pundits please stick to Raahat’s songs, the dance peeps can chck out Humka Peeni Hai and ofcourse Munni Badnaam Hui.. for those who love folksy tunes get the whole album guys and for the others – listen to the songs before you download them..

That’s it from Megzone for now..

~::~ Stilletos In The Newsroom ~::~

When you are new intern with one of the so-called prestigious newspaper.. what all do you have to go through to reach where you wanna be and realize your dreams??

Are you ready to accept your mistakes learn from them? Are you ready to indulge in a tiny teensy weensy bit of sycophancy and sweet talk..?? Or do you just be yourself suck it all up..

Don’t bother if they call you a slut and just go about doing your job and trying to set your own goals and reach them?

How do you realize who are close friends are and who isn’t? Is there a secret mantra to make it hit right the first time u set on that newsfloor??

Are you ready to wait for your loved one whose miles away in another country, continent or for that matter another hemisphere altogether..?? waiting for the love that you share to bring you together..

Leave your love-life to destiny and believe that if you are meant together so be it else you were never meant to be.. Can you hold on to that thought for 2 years and be completely honest to your partner without even realizing if you guys are even meant to be??

Well.. that’s the story of Radhika Kanetkar who started as an Intern and went on to become associate features editor in one of the leading newspapers..  The journey of her life from a raw age of 23 to 28…

Its truly inspiring to people who try hard to get noticed at work and also get blamed for everything they do.. Wouldn’t say it shows the insides of what goes into journalism but definitely portrays well that if you aspire you can get all that you want just play smart..

It’s a nice read.. wouldn’t say it’s a typical Chiclit cos its anything but that.. but yes since the protagonist is a female it can be classified as a Chiclit novel..

It’s a good read.. light hearted humours some mushy moments..

Give it a try..!!

My rating would be a 3/5 cos its not too gripping but its good I do feel like wanting to know wat happens next and the fact that she has a rule in every chapter makes it a lil crazy but nice 😀

Certified Readable 😀

~::~ Lafangey Parindey ~::~

The recent spate of albums that have been released OUATIM, Aisha have all been wonderful listens and adding another feather to the list is Lafangey Parindey.. I wondered why the music had a pop-py feeling to it and that’s when I saw that Music is by R.Anandh of Agosh fame.. Remember the “mujhe mil jo jaaye thoda paisa” yes yes same piece 😀 I loved most of the songs.. I can heardly put one as MISSABLE.. and with Mohit and Shilpa giving us lovely songs.. I can hardly stop listening to it 😀

Overall rating comes to lilke 3.5/5.. aahaa I knw I liked it so much and yet only 3.5 well there cud have been better songs too  right 😀 cos theres always room for improvement.. but for a debut music director this is brilliant work 😀

~

Lafangey Parindey Ronit Sarkar ~ the music starts like a rock song.. and has u hooked on the moment it starts.. Singer was aptly chosen and does complete justice to the song.. it’s a perfect for those looonggg drives…loved the lyrics – nass nass mein sheher ki banke lahoo ye daude..jis taraf ho marzi raah ko apni mode…chavi tho nahi hai milti kismet ke taale tode.. raftaaro ke ye aashiq khule hai saare ghode.. firte hai aazaad mast har mushkil ko karte hai bas rozana maut se lapak jhapak khatro se khelna  inki sazaa.. kabhi saaf kabhi ye gandhe lafangey parindey… Dhinchakkkk.. the chorus of dhingnananana is very cute and catchy 😀 over all loved the song.. definitely recommended CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN

Mann lafanga Mohit Chauhan ~ do u need a reason to love this song when it has mohit as the singer 🙄 the music is swaying and smooth.. And obviously Mohit delivers yet again.. and the song is mindblowing.. I hear ample use of guitar in this very simple music not much orchestration but very soothing and enjoyable.. The lyrics are cute and catchy too..  Mann lafanga bada apne mann ki kare..yu tho mera hi hai mujse bhi na dare…main sambhal ja kahun phisalta rahe..ishq mehenga pade yuhi sauda kare..The goan effect in the middle is really nice 😀 CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN

Rang Daalein –  Suraj jagan – thanks to 3idiots Suraj jagan seems to be everywhere in bollywood.. not that I am complaining cos I liked this song a lot.. but not so much to get so addicted to it.. Suraj as usual delivers with panache and the song is indeed nice to hear.. has the grey shade effect.. u knw the typical villain entry kinda music.. I wonder why all songs in this movie has the word lafanga/lafange I knw that’s the movie name but 3 songs so far and all 3 having the word is a tad too much… 😛 The bagpiper-ish music between the paras was really endearing.. the lyrics are ok not much..Some lines stand out like – waqt ke paao do hai paiye lage hai wo aagey aagey jaise koi  peeche peeche sepaiye hai lagey.. CERTIFIED LISTENABLE

Dhatad Thatad Shail Hada Anushka Manchanda – love the song the moment it starts.. it has the perfect rapchik raanti effect to it.. The music somewhere down the line seems to have some Bengali influence in it and I wonder why and how..?? I don’t care why they used the words dhatad thatad, its significance or wat it means but I can tell u this much I am loving this.. its completely catchy and danceable.. the moment it starts I am busy shaking and nodding my head to the tune.. 😀 The use of the famous kishore kumar line – jamkepakad cheerbhichakar is the sone pe suhaaga 😀 towards the end though I wonder why it reminded me of the typical tamil kuthu songs – the O Podu et al… the lyrics are peppy more like the why fear and worry jus get out and enjoy life types.. 😀 my fav line wud be – sunle shor chunchunke shor bhi ek manzar hai.. CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN

Mann lafanga (remix)–  Mohit Chauhan – u like the original u love the remix.. well that’s me… 😀 So without much ado about the song cos I am already gaga over it this one’s CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN

Nain ParindeyShilpa rao – everytime I hear this song and everytime I hear shilpa’s voice I love this song even more.. it’s a nice  soothing lilting number.. u really feel as if ur flying jus the way she sings it.. palakh jhatakke ud jaayenge..  brilliant piece J the music is so gentle and comforting.. the imagery created with the lyrics is mindblowing.. and with Shilpa crooning it’s a superfantabulous song J CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN

Born to Fly theme – after a long time I have actually heard a theme song that’s beautiful… it comprises mostly of all the songs in the movie.. and they have been awesome blended together 🙂 CERTIFIED LISTENABLE.

~

Overall the album is definitely worth a listen.. some songs obviously stand out and i would pick Mann Lafanga, Dhatad Thatad and Nain Parindey… and maybe add up Lafangey parinde to the list too..

So I give it a 3.5/5 rating 😀

Do listen to these songs and m sure ur gonna love them 😀

That’s it from Megzone for now..

~::~ Cute Aisha ~::~

Well … Saw the promos when I went to watch I Hate Luv Storys and I somehow felt it was a remake of some English/Spanish movie not sure though..Later Wikipedia revealed its based on Emma by Jane Austen.. The song that accompanied it – Suno Aisha… Did strike me interesting and had made me wait and make sure I get my hands on the album.. And I must say I am Not Disappointed.. 2-3 songs are really worth the whole album.. The music director Amit Trivedi seems to have taken the B-wood by storm now.. Most of his latest songs have been well received.. Though a couple of songs at some places sounded evocative to english songs but since I am not able to point my finger on the exact song I cant say they are lifts/remakes or anything.. But songs like Suno Aisha, Sham, Behke Behke and Lehrein are awesome numbers the last being the most soulful one with ample usage of Violin.. Singer Anushka has had a ball of a time cos she has got some lovely songs.. But somehow I would like to hear a melody or ballad from her than the usual perky numbers.. Anusha Mani I guess bein introduced in this cos I haven’t heard her before has done a beautiful job with Lehrein and Amit Trivedi himself does complete justice to the title track.. Overall it’s a lovely Album.. I give it a 3/5.. not being liberal.. But I just feel there cant be more to it 🙂

~~~~~~~
Behke behkeAnushka Manchanda – Starts with a peppy LATINO influence.. and yes the moment it starts im already tapping my foot and nodding/shaking  my head..Anushka suits this song to the T. I don’t know if its just me but somehow in some places the song reminded me of Main Albeli from Zubaida.. either its true or my ears are ringing.. but the song is definitely something that can keep you engrossed.. I see a lil  bit of flamenco effect in the song.. the lyrics are good.. the lines – Behke behke mann keep running in my mind inspite of the song finishes. CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN
By the way Anushka Manchanda – This ones again a nice peppy number.. in some areas it reminded me of 10 on 10 from Pyar Impossible.. err.. maybe cos both were sung by Anushka but nonetheless I liked this one.. I like the places where she says Jaane Do Chodo Bhi.. The ample use of guitar enhances the effect of the song… The lyrics depict of just live life don’t think…this ones not much of a dance number but definitely recommended for the party and karaoke nights..Cos I love the beats and the claps that come in.. CERTIFIED LISTENABLE
Gal Mitthi MitthiiTochi Raina – ok now I am not much impressed with this on hearing it 2-3 times.. but sometimes there are songs where the videos make them likeable.. For people who like Punju songs they are sure to like this one.. No I aint against punju songs but somehow ye kuch raas nai aaya.. L so for me its nothing great.. but somehow I feel when I see the song I might start liking.. and yes this might jus go on to become the next marriage song.. well its not about marriage but the mere punju effect is sure to make ppl  dance to it.. frankly this don’t impress me much.. CERTIFIED MISSABLE..
Lehrein ~ Anusha Mani, Neuman Pinto, Nikhil Dsouza – I just loved this one.. starts with Violin and that has me mesmerized already.. Completely Awesomee….the song jus flows and makes u sway too..  Generally the violin usage in a song depicts grief but this song seems more abt solitude/loneliness  but doesnt take u into any depressive mode.. you are sure gonan love this one 😀 CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN
Sham ~ Nikhil Dsouza, Amit Trivedi Neuman Pinto – This one in someways reminds me of an English ong but I am not able to place my finger on it.. minimalist music and the guitar usage has me swaying and flowing.. Sometimes reminds me of the LIMCA ad song..Perfect for a nice rainy evening with a hot cup of tea watchin the droplets hit the glass pane.. or else perfect for a night.. clear sky.. moonlight penetrating throw the windows and ur snuggled tight in bed 😀 and stars peeping out silently..Blisss…!!! CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN
Suno Aisha ~ Amit Trivedi – I like this one.. it’s a very cute song.. Amit’s voice melts like icecream.. Yes ye s ice-cream indeed.. Foot tapping music.. me the likes me the likes.. This ones already making rounds on TV and many have already expressed their liking for this one.. Theres one small Flute bit in the middle that really makes it cute.. This again I don’t know why  I feel is reminiscent of a song I have heard before.. Either cos the name Aisha sounds similar to Alisha in Pyar Impossible I don’t know but I do feel I have heard the tune before.. but nonetheless I love it 😀 and hence CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN
Lehrein RemixDJ Lloyd and Discreet – I love this one too.. Though it’s a remix its one of those versions that are perfect for those lonnggg drives/travel on a rainy day..  I loved the original and I love this one too J CERTIFIED MUST LISTEN
Gal Mithi Mithi ~ Tochi Raina – another remix another version.. Dint like the original not yet..not till I watch the video and give it another consideration and so as of now CERTIFIED MISSABLE..
Overall I give it a 3/5.. not very impressive but definitely not the missable types.. you definitely can listen to Behke Behke, Lehrein and Suno Aisha.. Sham is good too but not too striking initially but the more u listen to it.. the more you fall in love with it.. So that’s for AISHA a 3/5..
It’s Complicated…!!!But Endearing :)
Its Complicated
How do you think you would feel.. When you realize you are having an affair with a married man.. a man who was once married to you for 20 odd years and later divorced for another younger female..And you realize you are the Other WOMAN now..!!!???!!!
What happens when you have to attend your son’s graduation ceremony… with your 2 other off springs one married and the other studying.. And your ex-husband (of 20previous years together) comes there sans his current wife (the younger woman with a 5yr old kid)… and you both re-discover the passion and lust (not exactly love) on the night before (the graduation you sillies) whilst your kids out having a pre-graduation day party…
And the next day in the honor of your son’s graduation.. The whole family..Errr…previous complete family meets and dines together after a really long time.. And you experience is your ex-husband trying to seduce you under the table… (Bloody hilarious I say 😛 ) and later you end up having an affair and enjoy every teeny weeny bit of it.. to such an extent that your ex-husband is jealous of an architect spending time with you discussing you new wud be kitchen??
This is one helluva movie… believe you me guys… if you guys wanna have some real fun stuff to do on a weekend.. Just pick up some popcorn and head straight to this one..
Ok this is some mature stuff.. Lots of puns.. Lots of adulterated stuff.. But we’re all grown up aren’t we.. Certain nuances in the movie were simply marvelous.. Scenes where the JAKE (Alec Baldwin) tries to call up Jane hiding in the shower.. Playing footsie under the table.. Jealous of Adam (Steve Martin – the architect) superb I say… sneaking into her house like a thief.. Oh my so many of them.. its funny though how a man who has left his wife for over 10yrs now has fallen head over heels again in love with her…he knows her every action-reaction… likes-dislikes..Remembers every inch of their life together like the back of his hand..Reliving every memory..Awwww….maannn…u end up wondering why they ever divorce each other…
Now for the cast… Meryl Streep OMG she’s a Diva.. a perfect Diva.. Maannn.. I pray I age as gracefully as she has… somehow she reminds me of Madhubala-meets-Kate winslet-meet- madhuri… don’t know why guys.. But so I it is…and Steve Martin.. Well, he’s his quirky self but with a touch of melo-drama to that.. And Alec Baldwin.. Big fella (psst…that’s how Meryl calls him in the movie..) 😛
Nice one.. Amply delivered by the actors.. I loved and enjoyed every bit of it.. I give it a 3.5/5…
This movie is a must watch to all those who don’t mind watching some grown up fun.. Who don’t think its gross when a man and woman romance each other in their 50s..It’s such a sweet love story… Awwww…. Choooo cuuuteeee…. I would strongly recommend this one.. But strictly for people who don’t mind it.. The others should rather watch some mindless animation movie…Final verdict – Its Complicated 😉
But worth a watch 😀
If GOD was a Banker…!!!
Once in your life you meet someone… who sees your talent and potential and grooms you…
Teaches you the ropes of the business/job.. And sometimes leaves you at it to see you perform and prove your mettle…
Sometimes they step in to the sidelines to see you take the stage and do wonders with your knowledge, talent and skills… you succeed.. You taste wins… you taste victory and triumph and when that slowly eats up the logical you and takes over the your brain… you don’t want to look at failures.. you forget humility and modesty to the extent that you snub the people who helped you get where you are… you stub over the toes of those very people who made way for you and held the lantern for your flourishing path…  you falter… they hold you.. They support you… when everything you touch turns to gold…every venture every step every risk brings with it undue adulation…then success gets to your head and your ego takes over the reins of your life..When you defy all ethics and morals and slave yourself to malpractices…  that’s when you step into a vicious twister that destroys not just you but everything and everyone around you…
And yet you have those who knew you since before all this.. When u were a mere mortal oozing with confidence and vibrancy… You snub them you stub them.. They suspect you for your egregious behavior and yet they don’t carp or crib…they never hold any negative thoughts  against you… no hard feelings.. for the sheer reason that they admire you for your self-driven approach and verve…
There comes a time in everyone’s life.. When their past(if they have one) comes to haunt them… especially when they are at their defenseless worst… when they are so down in the doldrums.. these very same people whom he had throttled and trundled below their feet come to their rescue… like the Knight in Shining Armour… like the light at the end of the tunnel… like an angel.. the Guardian Angel  sent from heaven above… and they save you… they give you back the life your deserved… with the only condition that you mend your ways and be truthful, honest, sincere and dedicated to your near and dear ones…
Yes… that’s the story of If God was a Banker… the book by Ravi Subramanian…
I know I maybe late in actually putting this up…considering that his latest offering Devil in Pinstripes is already out in the market and doing damn well too… but its better late than never.. especially with books.. its never too late.. 😛
I liked the book for simple reasons.. it was interesting and fast paced… no beating around the bush.. no stretching the story just for the heck of increasing the page counts…It’s a story of 2 protagonists… one whose hard working honest dedicated with his integrity intact come what may.. and the other falters on the ethical and veracity.. They both have a common God.. a friend philosopher guide.. and mentor.. who taught them the tricks of the trade… how they both flourish under him his protégés … how one continues to maintain his relations and how the other gives into devilish egocentricities and is later brought to ground by this very same GOD… and that’s why the title IF GOD WAS A BANKER..
It’s a book that rekindles our faith on Honesty Pays… that was also the motto on of the protagonists in the book.. He was honest.. He was the Good Guy..  the selfless friend who in spite of the fact that his old friend and colleague garrote him and treated him as an adversary, came forth to stand by his friend for old time’s sake… that’s friendship… and that’s the basic gist of the story… the very people we try to trample over are those who love us the most and care for us the most… The story of Good triumphing over evil… a story of corporate haraamkori (sycophancy).. office politics… choices between shortcuts to fame and growth on hand and the longer but safer truthful path..
Yes the book comes with its own share of sleaze show ala casting couch in banking industry… or should I say Banking Couch.. Ouch…!!! But yes… that’s one shortcut to progress in career… but a short-lived one too…it clearly signifies that there are people who would do anything.. Literally anything to get to the top and make others do the same too…  It describes how once a person gets the flavor of being the boss doing wrong and getting away with it… he only gets usurped deeper into shit.. soweeeeee for the use of words but then that’s the best way I can explain it 😉
At many places I found the book going the Master of the Game aka Sidney Sheldon way.. but I guess any book based on leading protagonists and their thirst for success would go the same way 🙂
 On a scale of 5 I would definitely give it a 4/5…
Good book.. Definitely worth a read…!!! 🙂
Dying to get my hands on Devil In Pinstripes..!!
Paa…You Rock…!!!
A lovely adorable delightful slice of pure unhindered by masala cinema… yes that’s what Paa is…
The very introduction of the movie wrt to its casting, directors, assistants, producers itself proves that Balki is a unique director…A movie maker par excellence.. yes that’s what he is… After CheeniKum he picked up a very dicey topic to start with… and roped in the best actors the industry could offer.. and he proves triumphant . To me Balki comes across as one of those few experimental directors story writers.. Who would create a certain expectation in your mind and heart and deliver it with great élan…
Wondering what’s different with the opening lines of the movie… well…its simple that’s all period… no shoo-shaa…no flashy sets… no blaring music…. no hurting eyes with the lighting….and the striking part… we have jaya bachchan herself sitting on some steps and announcing them…
Just plain jaya, decked in a white sari with a red border with a smile on her face presenting the cast and crew of the movie.…
The movie begins with a school celebrating their 50th anniversary on account of which MP Amol Arte (visionary politician Abhishek) and in order to commemorate the event there is a special Visions of India Competition wherein students showcase perception of India in the future as the future citizens… and the very assortment or ideas that were spewed on screen for this contest was indeed commendable..  with the song Halke se bole lilting away in the background, must say this piece definitely welled my eyes with tears… the ideas if indeed perceived by children was indeed a spellbinder what with concepts like sachin for president to rejoining Pakistan with India using band aids … completely charming …and no prizes for guessing the winner of the contest… Someone who had the indigenous sense to perceive white globe no maps… no colors…no countries… no continents… just a plain white Globe… what a fancy idea that one…a white globe which stands for peace and no partitions…were its one world…one nation… on state…one city.. And that’s AURO…..the progeria inflicted 12year old kid…
And since the event was graced by the MP himself there was media coverage and Auro is constantly pestered  by the media cos of his condition…The mother to the rescue enter Vidya Balan- gynecologist..
Since the news is telecasted on the TV at night that’s when Vidya realizes Auro has received the prize and shook hands with his father… Cut to flash back… a younger Abhi and a younger Vidya both studying in UK for their respective fields… bump into each other at the corner of Brasenose Lane and there begins their clandestine romantic episode… they sure do have some chemistry… well.. as a result of unprotected pre-marital sex Vidya gets pregnant… when she announces the same to Abhor he acts as a complete irresponsible commitment-phobic prize a**… he doesn’t want any glitches and hitches in his career.. a budding politician who wants to prove to the world that politics is not a bad word…yeaa …whatever 🙄 … a politician not ready to take the responsibility of his actions but ready to take over the responsibility of his city, state, country… hear hear….
Cut to… Vidya with her mom… crying and divulging the details of their affair and her predicament… loved the character of the mom… simple… sympathetic… strong… resolved… supportive and yet to the point… no beating around the bush… no grey characterization… either black or white.. u want the baby or not… simple question single answer Yes or No… bang on target… cut to current scenario… to compensate for all the media hassles Abhor befriends Auro and they have their own series of misunderstandings, anger bouts blah blah blah…one such day on the eve of his 13th Bday Auro has a panic attack and the doc says they aint sure how longer he wud survive… that’s when Vidya decides to tell him the truth.. Reveal who his father is… that’s his Bday gift…then starts the scenes where Auro wants to reveal to his Paa who he is but cant cos he doesn’t want to be a hichki in his career… so says Vidya to him…but he does realize at another panic attack at another time… and the movie ends with Auro trying to bring his parents together and the last word he utters is Paa and there he breathes his last… perfect RIP moment….
The movie has many a heart wrenching moment… this is one movie where I laughed with Auro, for Auro , at Auro and cried for Auro too… the moments where on his 13th Bday his mom reveals who his dad is and he says “why now??Oh right you’re not sure if ill live for the next Bday eh??”And when he gets his second panic attack on hearing the word Bastard and learns the true definition of the word… he’s completely adorable…every time hiss ma wakes him he says… “Kyaa ma… why are u disturbing me?”  And when Abhor apologizes to Vidya in front of the media and asks her on TV to forgive him n marry him, Auro says “ma sorry bol raha hai” and he and his granny (bum as he calls her) exchange aankhon aankhon mein ishare trying to hook his parents together…. Maaan I must say both  the characters of Auro n Bumm are a real sport … the last final attack… is the most heat wrenching nerve wrecking one…I was completely in tears in the last 10mins….
Now to the characterizations of the actors….
Vidya breath-takingly beautiful… in GUYS’ terms perfect GF/Wife material…. Immensely portrayed perfect gal in love…Spurned pregnant lover… grievous mom… and gentle supportive mea to Auro…
An act truly laudable…..After Parineeta this is her best performance….
And Abhor pretty good too….. 😉 he has improved as an actor…but his character in the movie…def not a BF/hubby material…
Mann… her mom’s character is simply out of this world… If I were to express her character in a single word it wud be Sport… she is simple… no grays… either black or white    … u want the kid or no… that’s all nothing more nothing else… single answer n the decision is made… society, practicality gayi tel lene… kid or no kid.. is the question…fantabulous character… marvelous…outstanding…She cried in silence on her daughter’s condition…supportive of her decision…funny over the ball zesty granny… but never once let her daughter have even the teensiest idea of her anguish.. She was supportive…caring… teaching her the laws of single parenthood… wat a mother… Maaan… she deserves an ode… hats off to her character she is the backbone for vidya’s life….I bow to thee Madame… and Arundhati Naag has performed the character flawlessly… she’s simply extraordinary…as of now I’m simply out of words to rave her performance… SIMPLY SUPERB..!!
AB has proved his mantle yet again… he is the best the ultimate unequal-able insurmountable untouchable if I may say so SUPERSTAR we can ever have…. For a moment u simply forget its Amitabh, there on the screen, rather its jus a 12 yr old progeria patient Auro… not AB… not Abhi’s father…. not jaya’s spouse… nopes… Jus Auro spreading his Aura everywhere…
AB has proved it yet again that HE’S THE BOSS he’s the superstar of yesteryear or today… he’s the living legend… he is the best… the supreme..The magnificent…un-rivaled…empyrean… he has stolen the show… this can be conferred as the BEST Movie of 2009… rather the best…maan… m running out of superlatives… The best movie of AB till date… forget his yesteryears performances… move over agneepath… AAA…majboor…zanjeer… none of these can match this august…resplendent…out of the world performance… I’m still in complete reverence of the character and the actor himself…
He proved it to the whole industry that even at this old age… when he is actually a Granddad himself he can still act the part of an effervescent vivacious vibrant tad sarcastic pre-teen – teens guy…  there has never been anyone better than him, and I doubt there ever can be….
His voice modulations… the way he tried to behave like a 12 year old… oi maa… m in complete  admiration  full marks to AB on this…
Awwww….shoooooo shwweeeeetttt…. Wat an delightful kiddo…. Jus cos he’s not allowed to have mirchi and his mom loves mirchi he asks her to continue having wat she likes… in Auro’s language “aapko tho mirchi allowed hai naa…then why this unn…unneeceee..unnceesseaaary sacrifice… aap khao”
A standing applaud… Hats off… three cheers… and a BOW..!! AB ROCKS…!!!!
Wat an enchanting alluring gratifying movie… move over TZP…. Paa is here to rule the roost and win the hearts of all masses… a sure winner..!!
PLEASE WATCH IT GUYS IF YOU HAVENT….. I SWEAR YOU WONT COMPLAIN….
Love marriages around the world are simpleBoy loved girl. Girl loved boy. They get married…
Love marriages in India are a few more steps
Boy loves Girl. Girl Loves Boy.
Girl’s family has to love the Boy. Boy’s family has to love Girl
Girl’s family has to love Boys family. Boy’s family has to love Girl’s family
Girl and Boy still love each other. They get married…
😀
Self-Story narrated in true filmy style and yet so true to life…
That’s Chetan Bhagat’s 2 states for you.
Ofcourse as usual he has changed the names of his character and his wife’s, maybe her family’s names too… But the resultant is a rollicking so damn true love story of anyone who has married outside language..
I prefer to say language…cos every state has people from almost all languages… hence anyone who has married or plans to marry or is in love with someone outside ur language can definitely understand the idiosyncrasies, quandaries, ruckus and hullabaloo over choosing someone who is from a different language …
It makes you laugh…
It makes you cry…
It sounds clichéd…
But it’s worth a try…
It makes you scream…
It makes you dream…
It makes you cherish…
Your every whim…
But then you soar
